Julianna Kubik

‘The Floor’ considers the impact that long-standing chronic mental or physical illness has on how we occupy space. Based on the artist’s relationship with mental illness, the painting depicts how even the most comforting and familiar of spaces become overwhelming and create a sense of being trapped or pulled down. Motifs from everyday life are used to illustrate this understanding of space and mental illness.

Julianna Kubik is an American artist based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Inspired by the world around her and her experiences from her hometown in California and life in Washington DC and Scotland, Kubik attempts to use her paintings to capture aspects of moments and emotions. She also works to blend her background in law with her artistic work, using creative expression as a way to understand and process her life. While she uses a variety of mediums, her paintings are most commonly made using acrylic paint.
