We are looking for art and writing that speaks about disease and the human experience. If you are a patient, caregiver, loved one, healthcare provider, or survivor, we would love for you to share.
Guidelines
We are always open for art and writing representative of any disease or illness.
Who can submit
International artists and writers 18 years and over
Patients, caregivers, loved ones, healthcare providers, and survivors
Posthumous submissions accepted with proof of copyright or estate authorization
All artwork and writing must be original work created by the submitting artist
File requirements
2D artwork: JPEG format, 72dpi minimum, 800px on the longest side
3D artwork: 3 photos from different angles, JPEG 300dpi, 8 x 10 inches each
Writing: PDF or Word document, standard formatting
Submissions that do not meet file requirements may be disqualified
What we accept
All 2D and 3D mediums including painting, sculpture, digital, printmaking, fiber, photography, and mixed media
Expressive writing, poetry, and essays
Work must relate to physical disease, mental health, adversity, or the spiritual experience of illness and recovery
Work containing pornographic or otherwise harmful content will not be considered
How your work is used
You retain all copyrights to your work
Purple Octopus Art may use your work for marketing, promotional, and display purposes
Accepted work is archived on purpleoctopusart.com for public viewing
Work may not be reproduced without permission of Purple Octopus Art and the artist
Juror decisions are final
The process
What happens after you submit?
1 Submit
Complete the form below, upload your work, and pay the $15 entry fee.
2 Curation
Every submission is reviewed personally.
3 Decision
You will hear from us within one month of submission.
4 Exhibition
Accepted work is published in the online gallery and archived in the collection.
5 Interview
Selected artists may be invited for a recorded conversation published to the POA YouTube channel.
