Dorothy Anderson Wasserman

I create photo collage and assemble by hand. When I was going through chemo therapy I made this triptych to help come to grips with the experience. The creative process was very healing. I have written prose to go with it - see below

(American b. 1951 Duluth, MN) Dorothy is a visual artist, photographer, art educator, tap dancer, and choreographer. These professional careers have crisscrossed for five decades, informing and enlivening artistic directions pursued. She was a public-school art teacher for twenty-six years and taught tap dance for forty-five years. Since the 1970s Dorothy has been showing her work in galleries and various art venues on the east and west coasts of the United States. Her artwork is in many private collections.

Dorothy was a semifinalist in the National Portrait Gallery Outwin Boochever Portrait Competition, Smithsonian Institution, 2016. She was awarded a Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation Artist/Educator Initiative Fellowship in 2005. Dorothy received credits as choreographer and featured dancer in the 1987 Tristar motion picture “TAP'' starring Gregory Hines and Sammy Davis, Jr.

Dorothy lives and works in Tacoma, Washington.
