Jennifer Carberry-Landis

I was diagnosed with Meniere's Disease which very quickly went to late stage. My right balance organ died and had to be surgically destroyed 2 years ago. It rendered me completely deaf in my right ear, leaving behind constant attacks to that ear (without the vertigo) in addition to neurological issues, eye issues (I wear high powered prism sunglasses), a cochlear implant, a vestubular dysfunction disorder, and countless other issues. I am the rare subject. This normally never happens. I still work. I don't give up and I dont stop.

In the fine art world, I compete in juried shows. My artwork is my diary. I record my life, mental health, physical disabilities and my pets. I was born with my mental disorder which has impacted my life the most. Recently, my physical disorders have come to the forefront, especially my vision and my balance.

The impact of having a physical disability is pretty insane, coupled with the fact that I still hold a full time job and take care of my husband. It becomes devastating when I forget my cochlear processor when I leave the house.

Though my left ear can hear, it highlights how bad hearing is when you’re one-sided deaf, Life suddenly becomes overwhelming for my brain with my eye issues and lack of balance.
