Ectomy

Wall hung soft sculpture made using Lycra, angelskin, embroidery silk, padding, quilting hoop.

I made my first mastectomy piece as a tribute to my grandmother who had a mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer. She was hugely grateful to her surgeon for saving her life but also hugely admiring of his stitching skills. She herself was a very skilled needlewoman and upholsterer -she taught me to sew and embroider when I was a child - and she recognized real stitching skill when she saw it.

I graduated from the Kent Institute of Art and Design with a BA(Hons) in Fine Art in 2003. Since graduating my work has been exhibited in the UK, USA, and Europe and has been bought for private collections in UK, USA, France, Italy, Australia and Germany and for public collections in the UK. My work has featured in various magazines, both digital and printed, including Magazine des Beaux Art, Juxtapoz , Vogue Japan and Dazed Digital, and on French TV and radio. My work has also featured in books including Hey! publication,

De fil en aiguille by Charlotte Vannier, published by Pyramyd and Thames and Hudson and L’Art du Fil, by Marie-Madeleine Masse, published by Altern Atives
